Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center will offer summer classes funded through Lights On! There are a lage variety of classes being offered. You can call the Lights On! Office at 304-354-7595 to enroll.

BASIC SKILLS FOR ADULTS - Shelly Allen

Mondays and Wednesdays, 9/2/03 - 5/30/04, 3 - 7 p.m., Provides one on one and small group tutoring for adults to improve basic skills in reading, writing, math, computer skills, and preparation for the GED examination. Call Shelly at 354-6151 to register.

BASIC SKILLS/GED PREPARATION for DISPLACED WORKERS - Shelly Allen

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Begins July 23. Same class as above; however, major focus will be on displaced workers. Any remaining openings will be filled with anyone interested. Call Shelly, 462-5512. (Pending Board Approval)

COMPUTER SKILLS - Microsoft Office - Cheryl McCallister

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, July 14 - 30, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Participants will gain experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint and complete a portfolio. Major focus will be on displaced workers; however, any remaining openings will be filled with anyone interested.

FLY FISHING AND TYING - Marvin Starcher

Three class sessions - Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, September 22, 23, and 25, 6 - 9 p.m., Also 2 fishing trips - October 4 and October 11 (Saturdays) Participants will learn to recognize and identify different types of rods, reels, lines, and flies as well as basic fly casting and fly tying. Maximum number: 6 (Pending Board Approval)

GOLF FUNDAMENTALS - Bob Bailey

County Park. Thursdays, 8 weeks, 5 - 8 p.m. July 24 - September 11. The last two classes will be held at Mingo Bottom Golf Course in Elizabeth., Participants will learn about golf fundamentals and equipment, technique, etiquette, sportsmanship, and strategy. Participants must furnish own clubs. Maximum number: 12 (Pending Board Approval)

WOVEN CHAIR SEATS I - Joyce Cain

Wednesday and Thursday, July 16 - 17, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Learn to repair or replace seats in split-bottom chairs with ½" flat reed. Participants will furnish a chair* and two table knives. Bring lunch, snacks, etc. Maximum number: 10
