WOMAN DIES IN ATV ACCIDENT AT ROCK RUN - Busy 4th Weekend - Two Cyclists Injured, Lost ATV Riders, Hit-And-Run

The long holiday weekend has been non-stop for emergency services, one death, two motorcycle accidents, a hit-and-run and lost ATV riders.

Sheriff Allen Parsons said "The weekend is not over."

A 23-year-old woman was killed Saturday evening when her 4-wheeler reportedly struck a tree on Rock Run, a remote area in Wirt County near the Calhoun line.

Another person involved in the accident was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Calhoun EMS and the Grantsville VFD responded to the scene shortly after 6 p.m.

Rock Run is an area frequented by party goers, 4-wheelers and dirt bike enthusiasts. It has been the scene of numerous accidents on recreational vehicles.

It is situated between Munday Road and Rt. 5, Burning Springs.

State Police and the Wirt County Sheriff's Department investigated the fatality.

The second motorcycle accident over the holiday sent a Lizemore, Clay County man to Roane General Hospital early Saturday afternoon. David Neal reportedly received multiple-injuries when his bike went out of control on Rt. 16 south of Walker Road.

Sheriff Allen Parsons said the biker hit a rough area, causing the bike to wreck. Neal was in a group of bikers on a holiday ride.

Calhoun EMS responded with the Upper West Fork VFD.

Two Ohio visitors got lost on a 4-wheeler in an area of Bear Fork Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Allen Parsons said 19-year-old Eric Lawson and 17-year-old Melissa Schartiger of Massilon, Ohio left the Schartiger family gathering in mid-afternoon for a ride.

After intensive search efforts began at dark, the two riders found their way back. (See story on Hur Herald)

A motorcyclist collided with a truck in the Village of Arnoldsburg shortly after noon on July 4th, sending the injured man to Roane General Hospital. The bike was traveling west on U.S. 33-119 when it struck a truck belonging to Josh Falls. The cycle turned over in the eastbound lane. (See story on The Herald)

Sources at the scene reported the victims name as Shane Sampson of Chloe. A report on his injuries were not available.

Calhoun EMS answered the call, with First Responders from the Arnoldsburg VFD. Sheriff Allen Parsons is investigating the accident.

Police were looking for a car and driver after a vehicle struck a pedestrian Thursday evening. The hit-and-run happened along US 33/119 between Sand Ridge and Stumptown.

Three pedestrians were reportedly walking along the highway on Little Bear Fork about 9 p.m., when one was struck by the vehicle.

Calhoun EMS transported the injured man to Roane General Hospital in Spencer. Sources at the scene said he appeared to have some serious injuries.

HealthNet could not respond to the scene because of weather conditions.

The hit-and-run driver reportedly had Maine license plates, front and back, on an older model light blue Toyota or Subaru 4-door.

The vehicle was being driven by a female, with several male passengers.

Calhoun County Deputy Sheriff Ron Bandy issued a bulletin to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Police have been busy responding to calls regarding a stolen boat, domestic situations, drunk drivers and trespassing.
