Local residents, as those elsewhere, have been taking advantage of the cessation of daily rains. Lots of hay has been made and other outside work has been done.

Rod Lynch and Carl Ferrell have been busy mapping out a route for the big poker run scheduled for late July. It should be a fine ride through some scenic territory. The route is a closely guarded secret.

Ronnie Wyers was attending to business in Elizabeth.

Joyce Warwick, R. N. was calling on Charles I. & Harold Euell Russell one day last week.

Chuckie Poo reported that he may be released and get to "go back home". Farmer Mike, the former feller that was up where Chuckie Poo was "sent" has been working in Creston supervising Mark Robinson and the Carl Kelley crew who are getting ready to pave a section of W. Va. Route 5.

Lela White's son Keith Moore and a passenger, Cristy McCune, were seriously injured when their four wheeler hit an automobile up near the Mud Fork church. Keith received severe damage to an arm and elbow while the McCune woman was facing possible amputation of a leg and sight loss. The driver of the automobile went into labor but was later stabilized while the children in the vehicle, who were in restraints, were not injured.

It seems the varmints in Washington D. C. cannot keep their noses out of what does not concern them and now they set up a brand new welfare program doling out drugs for "the elderly". Now working men and women can buy drugs for John D. Rockefeller IV, Bill Gates, Ken Lay and the Kennedy family. Speaking of the Kennedys, one of the younger generation, a congress critter, bragged that he never worked a _________ day in his life.

Then the Supremes decided that P. C. social views ought to trump laws, common decency and Old Testament admonitions and that the "New World Order" ought to be, at the least, purple. A new report out from that section noted that 92% of the cash raised by the Democrat party came from donations of over $1 million each while 64% of Republican party cash came from donations of less that $200.

Stephen White was attending to business in the Silver Run section one day last week.

One local resident was a supper guest at the Wirt County 4-H camp held at Camp Barbe.

Mr. Dexterity attended a big meeting on brakes and got to help consume a whole bunch of pizza pie. The Oil Tycoon "came down with" a condition which might be described as a combination plumbing, hydraulic and non-functional valve problem. It was hoped that matters could be resolved before he and The Banker Lady flew off to Las Vegas but such was not to be. It is hoped that he has fun anyway.

Allegheny Energy, which supplies both electric and natural gas to domestic customers in Creston, is reported to be on the verge of bankruptcy. Also, Allegheny is one of the larger purchasers of natural gas from independent producers, especially in Calhoun County or wherever Cabot lines go.

Years back the former Monongahela Power division built power plants that were obsolete when new. In those days with protection as a utility monopoly they could operate with cost plus with the customers paying whatever the folks down at the Mouth of Elk River decided to charge. Now the company has to try to act like a viable business concern and they have problems. A spokesperson noted that the history of bad management continues and seems to permeate every aspect and level of the firm. Some years back company representatives told one local resident that she had bad wiring (it was new) when the problem was lack of transformers and other problems that local residents, on their own, would not know. During a storm out of area utility workers tipped off local residents that only antique, under rated equipment was being used. Use of such makes for poor service and higher bills.

It is understood that some outfits are in the market to purchase the better parts of the Allegheny System with Equitable being among those who are eyeing parts of the natural gas operation. It is said that the former Mountaineer Gas division has all sorts of problems. Dominion, which took over "Mother Hope" is said to be eying a Pennsylvania electric utility.

The price of local Penn grade crude is $26.00 with the natural gas price, with some exceptions, being steady.

It was reported that the "Little Stud Muffin" was spending time at the beach. Steve Staats and Dave Powell were mowing roads in the Creston area
