"STRIDE INTO SUMMER" - Walking Program Continues 8-Weeks

(07/02/2003)
After the success of the twelve-week "Stride into Spring" walking program, the Community Wellness Council has decided to sponsor an eight-week program for the summer months.

According to Tony Russell, a Council member, the summer program will be a "bare bones" program, intended to help people keep going who were participating in the spring program, or to give a chance to new people to start walking.

"This program will run from July 7 to August 31," said Russell. "There will be no pedometers and no blood tests, but we do have funds to pay for T-shirts for participants who meet their mileage goals."

Enrollment forms and mileage logs can be picked up at the Library, the Committee on Aging, Minnie Hamilton, and the Lights On! office.

"We have gotten some great feedback from the spring program," said Russell. "One woman said she had lost fourteen pounds. A couple have told me that they are wearing clothes they never thought they could fit into again. We're hoping the benefits in general health-blood sugar levels, cardiovascular fitness, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels-are just as positive."
