"STRIDE INTO SPRING" RESULTS DUE - The Walking Program

(06/17/2003)
"Stride into Spring," the twelve-week walking program created by the Community Wellness Council, will wind up Saturday, June 28, at Calhoun County Park.

Because June 20 is a holiday, and because of the need to get T-shirt and plaque orders to the supplier in time for them to be ready on the 28th, all walking logs need to be turned in by 5 p.m. this Thursday, June 19. They may be turned in at the Library, at the Lights On! office, at the Committee on Aging, or to Steve Whited at Minnie Hamilton.

Blood tests, for participants who had a test done at the start of the program, will be given between 8 and 9 a.m. Ben Baker, a Physicians Assistant at Minnie Hamilton, will give a rousing presentation on wellness and exercise.

That will be followed by presentation of T-shirts to those who have reached their mileage goals, and plaques to the team with the highest total number of miles and the team with the highest average miles per participant. Finally, those interested are invited to attend a closing walk around the 3.l mile walking trail at the park.

There will be an eight-week follow-up program, "Stride into Summer," for people who want to keep their momentum going, or for people interested in starting. This will be a low-budget "maintenance" program, with T-shirt incentives, but no pedometers. More details will follow next week.
