EARTH SLIDES STRIKE NORTH GRANTSVILLE - County May Have Record Number

This slide starts high on steep hillside Roadway falling apart because of water drainage Slide brings down large rocks North side Grantsville has been struck by a record number of earth slides, some causing the roadways to fall apart. Following the severe winter, ice storms, snow and the long spring of rain, rain, rain - the county has been plagued with rock and earth slides, possibly a record number. Some of the slides have been caused by water eroding across areas of large up-rooted trees during the ice storm. Others are from extremely steep hillsides like the area across the river from Grantsville, long known as Northside. At least a half-dozen earth and rock slides are still producing and causing problems for the residents. In recent years a slide destroyed a a Northside house and damaged others.
