BUDGET DIGEST DOWN $14 MILLION - Calhoun Projects In Mix

(05/24/2003)
Lawmakers have about $21 million dollars for legislative budget digest projects, fairs, festivals and economic development efforts.

There is a drop from $35 million in 2002-03.

The Budget Digest results are pending this weekend, a final draft is being prepared.

While Digest money has been used for optional projects, in many rural counties the funds have become more necessary to provide basic services.

Del. Bill Stemple has numerous requests from Calhoun, including a major request for funding a new emergency services center.

Lawmakers met Thursday and Friday going through more than 2,000 requests from the state's 134 legislators. The requests total more than $100 million dollars.
