APPLICATIONS SLIM FOR SPENCER CENTER - Company Wanted 1,000 Applicants

(05/22/2003)
The turn-out for possible work with Financial Asset Management Systems (FAMS) was not overwhelming.

The company has been considering placing a center in Spencer, and has been seeking applications for what could be 250 jobs.

Roane County development head Mark Whitley said he was "Cautiously optimistic," indicating the company was impressed with the quality of the applicants.

About 400 people applied for the jobs, short of the 1000 applications the company wanted.

The company was quick to point out the business is not telemarketing. A while back, more than 1,500 Calhoun residents applied for jobs at a proposed telemarketing outfit which considered locating in Grantsville. The project fell through.

Applications for the $7-$9 an hour jobs are still available from the Work4WV office at 325 Main St. or on-line at fams.net
