Delano Taylor, 65, of Grantsville, West Virginia, died at his home on Pleasant Hill at May 16, 2003.

During the silent moments of the candlelight ceremony at Friday night's Relay for Life event in Glenville, hundreds of people stood in the darkness as Mr. Taylor's name was read in remembrance, the most recent death to cancer.

He was the son of the late Woodrow and Eleanor Taylor.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Nancy Taylor; son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Barbara Taylor of Fairmont, WV; son Jason Taylor of Grantsville; daughter, Lori and son-in-law Paul Parsons of Grantsville; grandchildren, Woody and Ben Taylor and Adam and Kaylin Parsons.

Also surviving, brother, Raymond Taylor of Belpre, Ohio and sister, Julie Yost of Smithville, WV.

He was a former member of the US Army and served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an owner and partner of the former Grantsville Gulf Station. He retired from Dowell Schlumberger in 1995 after 22 years.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville on Tuesday, May 20 at 11 a.m. Rev. Carroll McCauley and Rev. Larry Jones will officiate. Interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
