CALHOUN RELAY FOR LIFE RAISES OVER $20,000 - Opening Ceremony Starts At 7 Friday

Katherine Burrows helps well-known Calhoun teacher, Elva Yoak, 88, who walks the entire loop, 2002 The opening ceremony for Relay for Life begins at 7 p.m. Friday at the Glenville State College football field, with several Calhoun groups participating in the annual event. Calhoun County Relay for Life groups have already raised $20,573.26 for the American Cancer Society. Gilmer County groups have raised $10,100. Jean Simers, a local Relay for Life organizer, said "If you have not attended a 'Relay' event, you should consider stopping by," because of the special atmosphere and community participation. Cancer survivor names will be read and they will walk the first lap around the track, followed by family and caregivers.
