LITTLE KANAWHA CRESTS - About 39.0 Feet, Few Evacuated

(05/11/2003)

Grantsville

The Little Kanawha River crested Sunday morning with little excitement and few families leaving their dwellings. The crest was reported to be slightly below 39.0 feet, with the flood stage level at 36.0.

Most of the weekend storms caused chaos around the county, with small trickles in hollows gushing water across property and most streams going out of banks. (See earlier story Hur Herald) The Grantsville VFD was on alert and on call throughout the night, with few requests for assistance.
