VELMA GRACE FOWLER McENDREE - Grantsville

Velma Grace Fowler McEndree, 89, formerly of Grantsville, died May 9, 2003, at Miletree Center in Spencer from an extended illness.

She was born in Staten, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Frank and Elfie Barr Fowler. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville, a member of the Fell Kennedy Sunday School Class, active with the church's women's mission group and served the church in various other offices and capacities.

She was active in the Little Kanawha Baptist Association, having served as president of the American Baptist Women for many years. She was honored by the American Cancer Society as a cancer survivor.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Louise Metz Pursley of Spencer, Doris Jean Noble of Hickory, N.C. and Linda Diane Braden of Parkersburg; one son, Glenn Dale McEndree of Spencer; nine grandchildren, Vincent Metz of Spencer, Sharon Grogg of Gilbert, Ariz., Robin Pursley of Spencer, David Noble Jr. of Maiden, N.C., Debbie Teague of Taylorsville, N.C., Tracy Ong of Vienna, Angie Stump of Parkersburg, Alisha Lawson of Lubeck and Stephanie Stanley of Parkersburg.

Four brothers, Dale Fowler of Parkersburg, Glen Fowler of Grantsville, Victor Fowler of LeSage and Foster Fowler of Flyria, Ohio; four sisters, Geraldine Wallace of Grantsville, Imogene Hoskins of Grantsville, Madeline Moore of Clarksburg and Oleva Gainer of Elizabeth, Pa.; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn "Bill" McEndree and two brothers, Edward and Durward Fowler.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Grantsville, the Revs. Douglas Eades and James Skedel officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Grantsville.
