STONEWALL RESORT SHOWCASES $60 MILLION FACILITY - The Stonewall Resort near Roanoke in Lewis County will be showcasing the $60 million resort to the public this weekend. The resort's Spring Open House, which was scheduled in conjunction with completion of the resort, will conclude on Sunday. The resort's lodge opened in October, with other amenities opening earlier this year.

WORKERS' COMP RATE GOING UP -More than 14,000 employers IN West Virginia will see their workers' compensation premiums rise by as much as 15 percent starting July 1.

. The Workers' Compensation Programs Performance Council has voted unanimously to boost rates in an effort to slow down a $3 billion deficit that has the system near bankruptcy.

The approved rate increase will bring in $587 million next year. Even with the hike, the fund will run out of money by 2005.

CHARLESTON MEN STABBED AND SHOT - A Charleston man was stabbed Monday evening during a fight in the food court of the Charleston Town Center mall. Christopher Smith, 20, was in stable condition at CAMC General Hospital after being stabbed twice, according to police.

Smith told police he hit his assailant, who then pulled a knife and stabbed him in the back and stomach area.

The suspect, who fled the area, was described as a black male in his early 20s. He weighs about 175 pounds and stands about 6-foot-2. Charleston police said there were several witnesses to the incident.

Police have located a car driven by a man who shot 25-year-old Michael Bryant while he was strolling with friends and his dog on Charleston's west side Easter Sunday. Bryant shouted at a passing driver, who was reportedly speeding, to slow down. The man returned, got out of his car and began shooting at Bryant and his dog. The dog died.

Several adults and families with children scrambled for cover at a Rite-Aid parking lot when bullets began to fly.

RAVENSWOOD WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER - Jackson County authorities arrested April Miller late Monday. allegedly for murdering an elderly neighbor and setting her mobile home on fire. She has been charged with first-degree murder.

On Monday, a second fire erupted in the mobile home park, this time at Miller's residence, which was adjacent to that of the slain woman. Miller was found outside the burning mobile home by Silverton firefighters, who said she has been assaulted. Both blazes appeared to be suspicious.

JOBLESS NUMBERS RISING - New jobless claims for the week ended 4/12 are 442,000, up 30,000 from the prior week's revised numbers. Continuing unemployment claims rose by 76,000 to nearly four million in America. Since July, 2000, 2.2 million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the country, according to government reports, although other economic studies have said the number is much higher.
