NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER MAY 1 - Volunteer Chaplains Association Plan Observance

(04/22/2003)
Pastor Mary Zimmer

The Minnie Hamilton Volunteer Chaplains Association will be observing the 52nd Annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday May 1st at the county courthouse at 12 noon. We will lift up the leaders of our country, state, county, and city in prayer; our children and their teachers; our Peace Officers, those serving the Military and the Veterans who have sacrificed to serve our nation.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. there will be hot-dogs, chips and pop available for your lunch. All donations will go to the Community Food Bank at the First Baptist Church in Grantsville.

Come celebrate the 52nd consecutive National Day of Prayer with thousands of Americans across the nation and reach across denominational differences in a spirit of unity and power.

Our country was founded on prayer. Now you can echo the heartfelt prayers of millions of citizens who came before you and asked God to shed His grace on our Nation and her leaders.

The National Day of Prayer tradition dates back to February 19, 1795, when President George Washington issued a proclamation setting aside a day of public thanksgiving. An annual day of prayer was established by Congress in 1952 and specifically designated in 1988 as the first Thursday in May.

It is easy to complain about what is wrong with our country and our community, but it's more effective to pray! So on Thursday May 1st join us on the courthouse lawn to offer prayers of guidance for our leaders and God's grace upon us as a people.

If you are unable to come at noon on May 1st than pray where you are - at home, at the office or even in the car. We are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. This National Day of Prayer, let freedom ring by exercising your religious right to pray.
