Charles & Euell Russell finally got their satellite Tee Vee back on after a payment was credited to a wrong account (something over two weeks). Dealing with the problem was almost an exercise in futility. "Are you Mrs. Russell?" " Do you have authority to discuss this account?" "It takes 10 days to post checks." "We're sorry but it will take several days for us to correct the error and turn the account back on." . . .

Don Rhodes reported that a couple from Arizona and their baby have moved into a trailer on his property in Creston. The man is said to be a minister.

Mr. and Mrs. Todd Rhodes and daughters were calling in Creston over the weekend.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell and Amy were calling on Mary Reno at Ravenswood.

Mr. & Mrs. Albert Ferrell were calling on Ed & Geneva Hayes.

The Canada fisherman recently purchased a brand new 2003 Ford vehicle and he got to reading the owner's manual. The manual discussed the "event data recorder" that is embedded in the vehicle. These things are usually called "tattlers". The book states that the recorder will indicate the use of restraint systems, vehicle (ground) speed, engine rpms, as well as 'other information' all of which will be made available to Ford Motor Company, government agencies and all others "who may assert a right". It would seem that one had best be careful what one says in one of these new automobiles as big brother, the folks at the UN or who knows will be listening and keeping data.

Some local residents saw a swarm of bees the other day. The Whip Poor Wills have been calling out and several have been keeping their eyes on the sleek turkey gobblers in anticipation of turkey season next week. Consumption of the Wild Turkey in clear glass bottles likely will decline as the French own the company.

Genevieve Richter, one of Arthur & Mary Nutter's daughters, went down to Florida to visit her daughter and family but became ill and is now on kidney dialysis. She was a patient at the St. Joseph's Hospital.

Rev. Juanita Lockhart and husband Steve and Rick Petty provided special singing at the Easter service held at the Burning Springs M. E. church. The church was decorated with Easter lilies and a cross was erected in the lawn with flowers planted around the base. Mr. & Mrs. Rick McClead and Alice Cunningham were among those who did the fine work.

Mr. & Mrs. Larry Goldizen were calling on Mr. & Mrs. Ray Cunningham.

Anna Engelke, who has been having car problems, went camping with Mr. & Mrs. Kenny Collins and family.

The war in Iraq continues to be a local topic. Unreal stories about torture chambers, Saddam's sons weird doings and vast sums of money, gold, art and other trophies continue to amaze one and all with the anti war crowd becoming more hard pressed to say why the UN should have "worked matters out" and "Jessica was only there because of America's failed diplomacy".

Planned Parenthood, the nation's biggest 'abortion provider' said now that with victory Iraqi women should be given US funded abortions. The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics to limit "inferior populations". She wrote, "We are paying for & even submitting to the dictates of an ever increasing spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all." If memory serves correctly, such was the justification for sending the Jews to the gas chambers.

One local fellow said he was talking to a fellow Down at the Mouth of Elk River who said, "How's it feel now that Wirt County has been put on the map [by Jessica Lynch]?"

Our local man replied, "We've been on the map for over 150 years but you just now found us!" He also added, "In 1492 Columbus discovered America and in 2003 Charleston discovered Wirt County".
