OLD TIRES WILL BE COLLECTED THIS WEEK - DOH Tire Removal Program Through Saturday

(04/21/2003)
The West Virginia Department of Highways will continue collecting old tires this year. The DOH statewide tire disposal program will commence today and continue through April 26th. The drop-off point in Calhoun will be the DOH garage at Mount Zion.P> The DOH will accept tires only from individuals, no businesses or dealerships. Fifty tires (including rims) per person, passenger and light truck tires - no tractor or commercial tires. Tires collect moisture and, with that, there's an increased likelihood that disease-carrying insects will breed there. Getting rid of tires is one way to keep mosquito infestations down, including West Nile Virus.

When the program started in 2000, the WVDOH collected almost 500,000 tires. Another 518,000 tires were dropped off last year.
