NEW ROAD COULD CONNECT INTERSTATES - Blue-Gray Highway Would Go Through Calhoun

(04/17/2003)
The Blue-Gray Highway is back on the drawing board, a long proposed upgrade of U. S. 33 and a section of State Route 5.

"We are working in conjunction with Calhoun, Jackson and Braxton counties on this highway," according to Mark Whitley, Director of the Roane County Economic Development.

Whitley said "This will be an inter-modal connector route between Interstates 77 and 79. Senate Bill 404, passed this year, created that authority and may provide funding for further look."

It would be a "super improved" two lane highway.

The proposed road would run from Ripley to Burnsville in Braxton County, going through Roane and Calhoun counties.
