| Wirt County has been under the hammer for extinction and the subject of numerous
comments and editorials, by what Alvin Engelke refers to as "Mouth of the Elk"
politicians whose life centers within a few miles of the capitol.
Comments, which have been printed in The Herald, range from "It (Wirt) never
amounted to much..." to it should not take up space as a political sub-division, and
should be eliminated.
