2024: HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN BEE STUNG? - The Bee Epidemic

(09/27/2024)
Bob Weaver 2024

There's a million in the yard, mostly yellow jackets, in addition to hornets and wasps. We've drowned thousands in sugar water.

Most everyone in my family have been stung, fourteen for myself. Sometimes they bite without stinging.

This year has been the greatest epidemic for bees in my lifetime, brought on by the drought and their search for food.

WV state officials say the outbreak has been marked by their aggressive nature.

Several West Virginians have died from bee stings.

WV has been experiencing a drought since July, a drought that NOAA predicts will last into 2025.

Although most bee stings can be treated at home, anyone who experiences symptoms of severe reaction or anaphylaxis, which include difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, fainting and loss of consciousness, swelling of the face, throat, and tongue, or pale or flushed skin, should use their prescribed Epi-Pen or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
