FLOOD WARNING SYSTEM FOR LK BASIN - Calhoun Residents Urged To Attend

(04/11/2003)
A warning system for the Little Kanawha River watershed will be discussed in Glenville.

The Gilmer Watershed Coalition will be meeting to look at the issue, Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at The Community Showcase, 115 E. Main Street, Glenville, between the Post Office and United National Bank.

The group will focus on the development of a Flood Alert/Response System which will include the improvement of weather prediction tools in the area, a communication alert system, and a community response team who will help those in need during times of high water. The public is very welcome to attend.

A watershed is the land on which all of the water that runs off goes to the same place. The Little Kanawha River Watershed contains all or part of twelve counties, including Calhoun, Gilmer, Wirt, Wood, and Lewis counties.

The watershed covers an area of 1,484,805 acres where all water runs into the Little Kanawha River. Water management and flood control measures anywhere in the watershed can affect us all, says Lisa Minney, coordinator for the project.
