CALHOUN WORKERS ELIGIBLE FOR DISASTER BENEFITS - Workers Affected By Storm

(04/08/2003)
Residents in Calhoun and another 16 counties may be eligible for unemployment benefits stemming from the February winter storm that hit parts of the state with ice, snow and flooding, according to Gov. Bob Wise.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is a federally funded program to help workers or self-employed individuals who - because of the disaster - couldn't get to work or no longer have a job.

The unemployment benefit was originally available to residents in seven counties: Cabell, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mingo, Roane and Wayne. Residents from those counties have until April 17th to file a claim.

Today's announcement extends the benefit to Braxton, Calhoun, Fayette, Greenbrier, Harrison, Lewis, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Putnam, Raleigh, Upshur, Webster and Wyoming counties. Residents of those counties have until May 7th to file a claim.
