Charles Dennis Self, 75, of Dusk Camp WV, departed this earthly life in the evening hours of Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston WV, following an extended illness.
He was born March 1, 1946 in Gilmer County, son of the late James and Velda Hickman Self.
Charles is a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He worked in the timber industry as a logger and also worked for a time at the Ford Motor Company and Quality Concrete. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed riding ATV's, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and he loved his grandsons, who were his pride and joy.
On January 25, 1969 Charles was united in marriage to Virginia Keith Self who survives at their home on Dusk Camp Run Road.
Surviving are 2 children, Charlene Montgomery and husband Mark of Ellis and Charles D. "Chuck" Self and wife Laura of Dusk Camp; 2 siblings, Kathleen Thompson of Lumberport WV, and Danny Self and wife Wanda of Dusk Camp.
Also surviving are 4 grandsons, Chuckie and Wesley Self and Matthew and Jason Montgomery and a host of many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his son, Joseph "Joey" Self and 3 siblings, James H. Self Jr., Carolyn Sue Self, and Dolly Ann Waggy.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville WV at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 with Full Military Honors at the mortuary and with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Self Cemetery. Friends will be received 12-noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary in Glenville.
