Janet Lee Matheny, 77, of Spencer

Janet Lee Matheny, 77, of Spencer WV, died Sunday, September 9, 2021 in the Elizabeth Care Center, Elizabeth WV.

She was born March 17, 1944 at Spencer, the daughter of the late Walter Clinton "George" and Naomi Helen Guthrie Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Ray Matheny; two brothers, Larry Williams and Harry "Tiny" Williams; two sisters, Joyce Morgan and Carolen Sue Williams.

Janet was a former employee of Kellwood Co., Spencer, and a customer greeter at Spencer Walmart, Spencer. She was also a foster parent and in home caregiver.

Her favorite pastimes were camping and spending time with family.

Survivors include her son, Michael Ray Matheny of Spencer; foster children, Vickie A. Maine and Jeremy T. Saunders; grandchildren, Addison Lee Matheny, Raidyn Rae Matheny, Noah Ray Burdette and Brandon Lee Cline; brother, Terry A. (Carol) Williams of Spencer; sister, Judy (Roger) Scott of Statesville NC.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Randy Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Gay WV. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
