AN OPEN LETTER - Tribute To Jessica Lynch

(04/05/2003)
Dear Editor

I want to thank you. The Hur Herald has been a Godsend for my family and I the past twelve days. Like many Americans, we've followed the story of Pfc Jessica Lynch since she was reported MIA. Thanks to coverage in the Hur Herald, I quickly found myself becoming personally involved in Jessica's plight. My late mother was also a shy, pretty little country girl from Appalachia. My oldest sister Becky could have passed for Jessica's twin sister at age 17... the resemblance is stunning.

Until March 23, I had never heard of Pfc Jessica Lynch. She now seems like a member of my family ... a little sister, a niece, a daughter. Most of my friends here in Georgia feel the same way. We prayed for her safe return, grieved when the bloody uniform was found, were all elated at word of Jessica's miraculous rescue. Tonight we feel her pain, we pray for her comfort ... a speedy recovery, and for her loving family that never gave up.

I'm nothing special ... just a 41 year old Georgian that loves his country. I'm an amateur weather forecaster and skywarn spotter, a part time security guard ... caretaker for my 89 year grandmother, the brave lady that took care of my little sister and me after mom died (I was 16, sis only 12). I'm also the son of a Korean War veteran.

I got WebTV a few years ago to keep up with family out of state via email (sis lives in Oregon); and assist in my weather watching. I've created a small webpage ... a WebTV personal homepage in honor of Pfc Jessica Lynch ... the brave heroes that rescued her ... and the power of prayer. Jessica is a very brave young lady, and an American hero. She sets a shining example for all of us.

The link to my site is below. I'd be very honored if you visit, and provide the link to your readers. It's not much, just my humble part of letting America know what we in Georgia think of the brave citizens of West Virginia; especially their favorite daughter ... Pfc Jessica Lynch.

May God Bless,
