ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES OVER 50 IN CALHOUN - WV REPORTS 1,141 NEW CASES MONDAY, CALHOUN SCHOOLS HAVE FOUR TEACHER-SERVICE PERSONNEL WITH VIRUS

Calhoun has 10 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with 38 new cases reported last week, indicating the likelihood of over 50 current cases in county, a record since the pandemic began.

Reports indicate that masking in WV's rural areas are not a priority.

Red and orange blanket West Virginia’s county alert map again with 53 of its 55 counties in the colors that indicate the most significant spread of coronavirus in communities.

Calhoun, Roane, Clay, Ritchie and Braxton are red.

Coronavirus cases continue to increase in West Virginia as data on Monday from state health officials showed 10 new virus deaths and 1,141 new positive cases in the past 24 hours.

Active cases reached 16,372 Monday in the latest update from the state Department of Health and Human Resources. This is an increase of 709 from Sunday.

The state’s daily positive test rate was 11.77%, while the overall positive test rate as 5.19%. Both numbers were up from the previous day.

Hospitalizations were at 579 as of Friday. The data was not updated by 10 a.m. Monday. Intensive care unit patients were at 181 and the amount of COVID patients on ventilators was at 82.

The state’s death total during the pandemic reached 3,074 Monday. In total, 20 additional COVID-19 deaths have been reported since Friday.

Data shows that 0.55% of fully vaccinated residents have tested positive for COVID-19 while 0.008% of those vaccinated residents have died.

COVID-19 Delta variant cases were up to 854, likely under-reported.
