Wanda Lee Sears Carpenter, 90, of Parkersburg

Wanda Lee Sears Carpenter, 90, of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of Big Bend, WV, passed away on Aug. 23, 2021, at Belpre Landing Nursing and Rehab, Belpre, Ohio.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1931, in Calhoun County, WV, the middle daughter of the late Hansford K. and Stella Propst Sears. Wanda was a graduate of the Calhoun High School class of 1950. She married her high school sweetheart, Dallas Carpenter, on December 24, 1950. Wanda was an employee of the USPS, retiring in 1991, as Postmaster in Big Bend, WV, with 25 years of service.

Wanda and Dallas enjoyed a variety of activities: camping and fishing trips, owning a fabric shop (D &W Fabrics), flea markets, Saturday night auctions, and the Grantsville Senior Citizens. Wanda was a member of the Brooksville Baptist Church for many years.

In addition to her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Dallas; daughter, Joyce Ann Carpenter; sisters, Virginia (Junior) Cross and Wilma (Bill) Kerby; sister-in-law, Jean Carpenter; brother-in-law, Danny Carpenter; and nephew, Terry Carpenter.

She is survived by brother-in-law, Donald Carpenter of Spencer, WV; sister-in-law, Connie Carpenter of Sutton, WV; niece, Sherry Heldman; and nephews, Tommy, Tim, and Jeff Carpenter.

Wanda’s family would like to thank the staff of Love & Care Assisted Living where she made her home for the last two years; she loved everyone there, Belpre Landings, and Buckeye Hospice.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Grantsville, WV, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brian Arthur officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to: Brooksville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Big Bend, WV 26136 or the Bethlehem Cemetery Fund, P.O.
