West Virginia health officials reported Wednesday two new coronavirus deaths and 546 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

The rising cases come as West Virginia schools are set to reopen, with each of 55 counties deciding on masks.

It appears that Calhoun has nine new cases since last Friday.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported active cases were at 4,625 Wednesday.

The number of cases on ventilators is reaching a new high.

There were 275 COVID patients at hospitals, with 114 in intensive care and 445 on ventilators.

WV is stagnant with vaccinations after conclusion of "Do It For Babydog" winners.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate was at 4.96%. The daily positive test rate decreased from 9.90% Tuesday to 6.35% Wednesday.

COVID-19 recoveries were at 163,603.

There were 161 confirmed cases of the delta variant in the state as of Tuesday, likely under reported. The data was not updated Wednesday morning.
