WV COVID-19 CASES RISING - 429 New Cases Friday, Calhoun Has Seven New Cases Since Last Friday

COVID-19 cases are soaring upward in WV, while residents seeking to be vaccinated appears to have hit a brick wall while schools are set to re-open.

429 new cases are reported Friday.

Calhoun appears to have seven new cases since last Friday. The WV Department of Education says each county will make decisions regarding COVID-19 measures.

New case numbers reported Friday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources show Marshall, Wetzel, Cabell, Wyoming and Upshur counties in the ‘red’ on the daily alert map.

Hospitalizations in connection with the virus are now at 210, the highest level since there were 207 patients on May 28. There are now 68 people in the ICU.

The DHHR dashboard currently records 129 cases of the Delta variant, while the actual number is believed to be much higher.

State Coronavirus Czar Dr. Clay Marsh said Friday 91% of the most recent active cases come from the Delta variant. There are currently 3,372 active cases.
