FRIDAY RISING WV COVID-19 REPORT - 268 NEW CASES

Active coronavirus cases in West Virginia went above 2,000 in the latest data update from health officials on Friday.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported two new COVID-19 deaths and 268 new cases. Active cases were at 2,057.

The latest deaths bring the pandemic death toll to 2,946.

Hospitalizations increased from 133 Thursday to 147 on Friday. There were 61 COVID patients in intensive care and 23 on ventilators.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate remained at 4.93%. The daily positive test rate increased from 4.35% to 6.20% over the past 24 hours.

COVID-19 recoveries were at 162,013 in the latest update.

As of Friday morning, there were 100 confirmed cases of the Delta variant in the state.
