WEDNESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 139 New Cases Creeping Up

Wednesday, West Virginia health officials announced one new coronavirus death and a jump in new and active cases.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release Wednesday the death of a 64-year-old man from Marion County. No deaths were reported Tuesday or Friday in the last updates from the agency.

West Virginia’s death total from the pandemic is now at 2,920.

There were 139 new virus cases reported since the last update. Active cases increased 89 and were at 1,187.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate declined slightly from 4.95% to 4.94%, and the daily positive test rate bumped up slightly, from 3.20% to 3.26%.

Hospitalizations increased by three and were at 88, with 38 in intensive care and 15 on a ventilator. Recoveries were listed at 161,291.
