MONDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - Outbreak Strikes Washington District Families

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported one new COVID-19 death on Monday and 160 new positive cases since last Friday.

A number of individuals from Calhoun Washington District families have experienced an outbreak in a neighborhood, most of them hospitalized, some seriously ill.

The death total for the pandemic is now at 2,910. The latest death was an 88-year-old woman from Berkeley County.

The state’s cumulative positive test percentage was 4.97% Monday, down from 4.97% in Friday’s update. The daily positive percentage test rate went from 1.61% Friday to 1.90% Monday.

There were 75 people hospitalized with the virus as of Friday. There were 24 in intensive care and 10 patients on a ventilator. The data was not updated Monday morning. Recoveries were at 160,728 on Monday.

The DHHR's data shows there are 17 cases of the delta variant of COVID-19 in the state. The DHHR reports there are six cases in Monongalia County, five cases in Berkeley County, and one in each of the following counties: Greenbrier, Hampshire, Harrison, Kanawha, Marion and McDowell.
