Bernard Marlin Wager, 69, of Orma

Bernard Marlin Wager, 69, of Orma, WV, passed away July 3, 2021, following an extended illness.

He was born November 8, 1951, in Calhoun County, WV, a son of the late Weldon Dean and Ilene W. (Wilson) Wager. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother and maternal grandparents, Bernard Baughman and Clarice G. (Shimer) Wilson.

Bernard served in the United States Army and Army Reserve during Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was a military police officer and also served two tours in Germany. Following his military career, he worked as a travel security guard for various companies with many years of service. He was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church in Calhoun County where he was saved in 1971 and baptized in 1974. Bernard enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, and story telling. He will be remembered as someone who was a generous person and lived by the motto, “Better to give than receive.”

Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia Coleman and her husband, Tyler of Ripley, Lisa Myers of Parkersburg, Angela Wager of Mason County; brothers, Wayne Wager of Grantsville, Gary Wager of Grantsville; sister, Carmen Heil of Wheeling; grandchildren, Aiden Bailey, Conner Bailey, Liam Bailey, Kaden Coleman, Caitlyn Myers, Brook Myers, Xavier Oakley; great grandchild, Alan Johnson; ex-wife and friend, Virginia Wager, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Longview Community Church, Evans, WV, with Pastor Doug Mitchell officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. until time of service on Thursday, at the church.
