Sunday's weather was more suited to skiing than mountain biking, but Espe Clothier and Cai Clothier braved the elements,
along with about 60 other avid bikers, for the first WVMBA mountain bike race of the season at Pipestem State Park.
Espe, a senior at Calhoun High School, placed 3rd in the Men's Sport 19-25 class. As we drove along snow covered roads
on the way to Pipestem, Espe remarked "Now we'll know who the real idiots are!". A number of bikers who had spent
Saturday night at Pipestem woke up and left for home, rather than race in 6 to 8 inches of still-falling snow.
Cai, a 5th grade student at Calhoun Middle School, and member of the WV Mountain Bike Racing Team, also placed 3rd in
his class - the Junior 14 and under class. Cai will be be racing in the 11&12 year old Kids Race class, and the WVMBA
Youth Series Middle School class. The WV Mountain Bike Racing Team is sponsored by WV Tourism, Worldwide
Chiropractic, Bon Jovi, the Charleston Bike Shop and Canondale.
