THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 269 NEW CASES

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported four new COVID-19 deaths in the state and 269 new positive cases over the past 24 hours.

The latest deaths bring the state’s pandemic death toll to 2,792, according to the DHHR. Those deaths were an 84-year-old man from Wayne County, a 87-year-old woman from Raleigh County, a 79-year-old woman from Pocahontas County and a 39-year-old man from Wood County.

The DHHR reported there were 5,099 active cases.

The daily positive test rate increased from 3.24% on Wednesday to 4.28% Thursday, while the overall positive test rate remained at 5.10%.

As of data from Wednesday, there were 209 hospitalizations from the virus, including 81 people in intensive care and 29 on ventilators.

There have been 665,950 people in the state become fully vaccinated. There have been 153,155 recoveries from the virus since the start of the pandemic.
