FRIDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - Calhoun Has 35 New Cases This Week, 33 Last Week

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported five new COVID-19 deaths and 297 new positive cases in the state Friday.

Calhoun has a weekly total of of 35 cases. Last weeks total was 33. Record highs for the county.

A number of Calhoun citizens and former citizens are in intensive care, some in their 40s, including adults and athletes attending the girl's state basketball play-off.

The CDC announced that people who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to wear a mask, with exceptions. Those who are not, need to wear a mask.

A problem with public places, they will not know those who are fully vaccinated, while mandating or not mandating masks.

There are currently 6,615 active cases in the state. The daily positive test rate decreased from 4.59% to 4.47%, while the overall positive test rate remained at 5.13%.

As of Thursday’s data, there were 255 people hospitalized with the virus, including 86 in intensive care and 34 people on ventilators.

There are 641,046 West Virginians who are fully vaccinated and 148,552 residents have recovered from the virus since the pandemic started.
