TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - About 42 Record Active Calhoun Cases, Several In Critical Condition

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported five new COVID-19 deaths and 258 new positive cases in the state on Tuesday.

The most recent deaths include a 72 year old Roane woman.

Calhoun has nine new cases already this week, a record 33 last week, with a few Calhoun citizens and former citizens in intensive care. some in their 40s.

Unconfirmed, girl's basketball players attending the state tournament have tested positive for COVID-19. There are currently 6,780 active cases in the state. The daily positive test rate decreased from 5.62% to 5.46% Tuesday, while the overall positive test rate remained at 5.14%.

As of Monday’s data, there were 253 people hospitalized with the virus, including 78 in intensive care and 36 people on ventilators.

There are 631,921 West Virginians who are fully vaccinated and 147,361 residents have recovered from the virus since the pandemic started.
