SUNDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 420 NEW CASES, VACCINE HITS WALL

Seven new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in West Virginia on Sunday.

Officials also reported 420 new positive cases, raising West Virginia’s active case total to 7,151.

Many of the new cases are within the under 35 category.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reports 34.7% of all West Virginia residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

New numbers released by the agency Friday also show 43% of residents have received at least one shot.

There has to be 70%-80% receive the vaccine to obtain herd immunity.

The overall positive test rate inched down again from 5.12% to 5.11% while the daily positive test rate came in at 4.46%.
