Rachel Elizabeth Nutter Burke, 93, of Fairdale

Rachel Elizabeth Nutter Burke, 93, of Fairdale WV, formerly of Cedarville WV, departed this earthly life in the afternoon hours of Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley WV, following an extended illness.

She was born September 14, 1927 in Braxton County WV daughter of the late Arthur and Carrie Gerwig Nutter.

Rachel is a graduate of Normantown High School, class of 1946. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, and caring for her family.

Rachel is a Christian by faith and belonged to the Brawley Methodist Church.

On January 1, 1947 she was united in marriage to Fred J. Burke who preceded her in death on July 5, 2014.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Jean Jackson and husband Ted of Fairdale, and Ann Moyers and Husband Joe of Cedarville; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Hartshorn and husband Everett, Teresa Case and husband J.D., Julie Conrad and husband Johnny, Sarah Hill and husband David, and Misty Moyers-Chavez; and 1 sister, Ernestine Sigman of Akron OH.

There are also 9 great-grandchildren surviving, Courtney Carr and Chloe Case, Chelsey Piles, Jacob Conrad, Isabellia and Christina Moyers, Josie and Emma Hartshorn, and Alexandria Moyers; 2 great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with her parents and husband Rachel is preceded in death by 5 siblings, Herman Frederick Nutter, Robert Nutter, Erma Lee Chaplin, Lena Rogers, and Madeline Greenleaf.

A funeral Service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary and Cremation Services, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville WV, at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 with Rev. Gary Chaplin officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick-Gerwig Cemetery on Tom's Run Road near Cedarville WV. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the mortuary in Glenville.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Bowers Hospice House of Southern West Virginia, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV, 25802 or the church of your choice in honor of Rachel.

In accordance with the mandates set forth by the State of West Virginia, masks or some kind of facial covering must be worn inside the mortuary establishment at all times and social distancing must be observed.
