(04/01/2021)
Kenny Wright, a fixture in high school football programs in Ritchie County for several decades, passed away Tuesday.

Wright was a charter member of the West Virginia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and was inducted in 2008. He served as the head coach at Pennsboro High School for twenty years, starting in 1965. When Ritchie County High School opened in 1986, Wright began a 15-year run as the leader of the Rebel football program.

Wright led Ritchie County to six playoff appearances in his final nine seasons as head coach. In 1994, the Rebels won eleven consecutive games and advanced to the Class AA semifinals. Ritchie went 8-3 in Wright’s final season in 2000.
