COVID-19 VACCINE REQUESTS LOW IN CALHOUN, GILMER, CLAY AND GILMER

Gov. Jim Justice is urging residents 65 and older in six counties to pre-register for COVID-19 vaccinations on the Everbridge system at vaccinate.wv.gov.

Justice said during his Friday media briefing that pre-registrations are low from older residents in Gilmer, Calhoun, Clay, Grant, Braxton and Monroe counties.

“These counties are running behind our other counties and we absolutely need to get them registered,” Justice said.

According to the recent Gallup poll, the rate of willingness to get the vaccine increased in both Democrats and Republicans with 91% of Democrats (compared to 83% in December) and 51% of Republicans (compared to 45% in December) willing to get vaccinated.

The Center for Disease Control says at least 85% of US citizens need to be vaccinated to stop the spread of disease.

So far, 6% of West Virginians have received the vaccine.

Numerous conspiracy theories appear to be holding back a section of WV citizens from accepting the vaccine.
