WILD GUNFIRE - Hours after shots rang out on Walnut Avenue in Fairmont, Police took the alleged shooter, a convicted felon, into custody. Antonio Devon Cottingham, was arrested early Monday morning without incident.

Cottingham was allegedly behind a shooting on in Fairmont Sunday evening. Officers responded to the 400 block of Walnut Avenue around at 8:49 pm, where Cottingham is accused of opening fire on two unarmed individuals. One of the victims was hit multiple times.

Police did not provide an update on the condition of either victim.

Cottingham is charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment involving a firearm and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Cottingham has a lengthy rap sheet. He was previously convicted on felony offenses of distribution of crack cocaine and escape from custody. He was also convicted in state court for conspiracy to commit a felony against the state. In 2016, Cottingham was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm after he was caught with a .44 caliber revolver in August 2015. He was currently out on supervised release.

The case is under investigation.
