2022 FLASHBACK : HERALD DISABLES NEWS TIP SUBMISSIONS - Platform Used Wrongly

(02/25/2025)
SOCIAL MEDIA NOW RULES THE MIND

2021

The Hur Herald has disabled the NEWS TIP SUBMISSION link we have used for 25 years.

It has been a difficult decision.

The anonymous link had become a platform for readers to make threats and rail about their political beliefs, wide spread profanity with name calling, links to sell stuff and multiple viruses to hack the Herald, inserting porn links into stories.

It has been a time when social media rules the mind, where users now occupy their time to be their own writer, editor and publisher, which we once believed is a good thing.

The Herald received a "news tip" that "We're going to take you down," while others made death threats, after which several thousand readers could not get on the site, cutting access for lots of readers.

After publishing an accurate story about a tortuous event, those affected set up a web site "Up Yours Weaver" for about a year, making allegations including murdering editor.

It has been a trying time.
