Byron L. Murphy, 64, of Looneyville

Byron L. Murphy, 64, of Looneyville WV died Thursday, January 28, 2021, at home after an extended illness.

He was born March 20, 1956 in Charleston, the son of the late S. Ronald Murphy and Betty Lee Carpenter Murphy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Murphy.

Byron was a retired commercial vehicle inspector for the Public Service Commission with 36 years of service. He was a former deputy for the Roane County Sheriff’s Department, a former mechanic and driver for the Roane County Board of Education, and a mechanic for the WV DOT, Parkersburg. Also, he was a ten year veteran of the WV Army National Guard and a 1974 graduate of Spencer High School.

He was a member of the Hays Fork Community Church, Looneyville and the Linden Lodge No. 83, A.F. & A.M., Linden.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Walker Murphy; a daughter, Vicki Murphy of Brentwood, California.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Gay WV, with Wayne Boggs officiating followed by Masonic graveside rites.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
