Some students and staff at a Roane County school are under quarantine after a student tested positive for COVID-19.

The school system said in a news release that it was confirmed Tuesday that a student at Walton Elementary Middle School had a positive virus test. School officials said the student had not been at the school since Friday, Jan. 22.

Classmates in the student’s core group and associated staff are under quarantine as a precaution.

School officials believe the student tested for the virus only after a family member not directly connected to the school system first tested positive.
