WV RATE OF VIRUS SPREAD SECOND HIGHEST IN NATION - Thursday 34 Deaths, 1,303 New Cases

West Virginia has the second highest rate of spread of the coronavirus in the nation heading into Christmas Day.

Nearly 23,000 active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia ahead of Christmas.

The Rt Value Thursday morning was 1.15, second only to Maine at 1.18.

The state reported 34 additional COVID-19 deaths in numbers released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources Thursday.

Overall deaths since the pandemic began are now at 1,228.

WV DHHR confirms 1,303 new COVID-19 cases Thursday.

The daily positivity test rate is at 7.90%. Active cases are now at 22,987. Hospitalizations reported by the DHHR were at 739 on Christmas Eve with 170 of them being treated in ICU.

Forty-seven of the state’s 55 counties were either ‘red’ or ‘orange’ on the daily COVID-19 alert map.
