TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT: WV RECORD NUMBER DEATHS - 1,400 NEW CASES

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 42 more COVID-19 deaths Tuesday morning, the most deaths reported in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

The previous most deaths reported in a single day was 34 on Dec. 15. Officials with the DHHR say the deaths reported each day do not necessarily reflect they died on the reported day.

The state’s death total is now at 1,171.

DHHR officials said the total number of virus cases during the pandemic is at 74,737, with 22,864 active cases. Officials say there were 1,400 new positive cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Hospitalizations on Tuesday were at 739, up 44 from Monday. The DHHR reported 175 were in intensive care and 75 were on a ventilator.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate was at 4.43%, up from 4.38% on Monday. The daily positive test rate increased to 10.25% from 7.91% on Monday.

As of Tuesday, 21,075 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been received and 15,914 administered.
