COVID-19 WV RED HOT - 995 New Cases

Thirty-two of West Virginia’s 55 counties were in red Monday on the county alert system map as the Christmas holiday approaches.

Counties in the red were Greenbrier, Mercer, Wyoming, Logan, Mingo, Wayne, Lincoln, Boone, Mason, Jackson, Wood, Ritchie, Pleasants, Tyler, Doddridge, Harrison, Wetzel, Monongalia, Taylor, Preston, Upshur, Marshall, Ohio, Brooke, Hancock, Grant, Hardy, Mineral, Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson.

Fourteen counties were in orange: Kanawha, Putnam, Cabell, Monroe, Raleigh, Braxton, Fayette, Nicholas, Clay, Webster, Wirt, Pendleton, Barbour and Marion.

Four counties were in gold – Gilmer, Lewis, Pocahontas and Summers.

Four counties were in yellow - McDowell, Roane, Calhoun and Tucker. Only one county was in green – Randolph County.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 995 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death in its report on Monday.

The DHHR announced 1,127 new COVID-19 cases and six additional deaths in its Sunday report. The DHHR announced 1,464 new COVID-19 cases and 31 deaths on Saturday. This equates to 2,591 new COVID cases and 37 additional deaths over the weekend.

The report from the DHHR stated that as of 10 a.m. on Monday, December 21, there have been a total of 1,396,471 (+18,260) laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 73,337 (+995) total cases and 1,129 (+1) of those cases resulting in deaths.

According to the DHHR’s COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 22,877 active cases and 49,331 recovered cases in the state.
