TUESDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT: 29 DEATHS, 932 NEW CASES

Deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S. have soared to more than 2,200 a day on average, matching the frightening peak reached last April, and cases per day have eclipsed 200,000 on average for the first time on record, with the crisis all but certain to get worse because of the fallout from Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

Virtually every state is reporting surges just as a vaccine appears days away from getting the go-ahead in the U.S.

The virus is blamed for more than 280,000 deaths and almost 15 million confirmed infections in the United States.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 932 new COVID-19 cases and 29 additional deaths.

The DHHR announced 1,131 new COVID-19 cases and three additional deaths on Monday.

The report from the DHHR stated that as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, there have been a total of 1,236,850 (+10,153) laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 57,060 (+932) total cases and 870 (+29) of those cases resulting in deaths.

The DHHR has confirmed the deaths of an 85-year old female from Hancock County, a 77-year old male from Mason County, a 59-year old female from Marshall County, a 62-year old male from Lincoln County, a 90-year old female from Boone County, a 95-year old female from Hancock County, a 76-year old female from Cabell County, a 54-year old female from Cabell County, an 81-year old female from Kanawha County, a 65-year old male from Randolph County, a 92-year old male from Kanawha County, a 72-year old male from Berkeley County, a 97-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 90-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 97-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 67-year old male from Mingo County, a 96-year old male from Marshall County, a 74-year old female from Jefferson County, an 81-year old female from Putnam County, a 70-year old female from Fayette County, a 93-year old female from Kanawha County, a 53-year old female from Grant County, an 80-year old female from Putnam County, a 78-year old female from Hancock County, a 75-year old male from Raleigh County, an 86-year old male from Kanawha County, an 89-year old male from Wood County, a 62-year old female from Harrison County, and a 65-year old male from Cabell County.

According to the DHHR’s COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 19,677 (-14) active cases and 36,513 (+917) recovered cases in the state. As of Tuesday, more than a third; approximately 34.38% of all COVID-19 cases that have been identified in West Virginia since the pandemic began in March are currently active.
