THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 1,120 NEW CASES, ELEVEN DEATHS - Surge Continues Regional Counties

Eleven more COVID-19 deaths were reported in the Mountain State Thursday morning and the state has now hit the 50,000 mark for positive cases since the start of the pandemic.

Calhoun had 29 active cases Wednesday.

One student has tested positive for COVID-19 at Walton Elementary Middle School.

Health officials said the state has a total of 789 deaths related to the virus.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed the deaths of a 73-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 91-year-old woman from Boone County, a 51-year-old man from Wood County, a 77-year-old man from Hancock County, an 87-year-old man from Mineral County, a 79-year-old woman from Mineral County, an 85-year-old man from Greenbrier County, an 86-year-old man from Berkeley County, a 56-year-old woman from Berkeley County, an 83-year-old man from Marshall County, and an 81-year-old man from Marshall County.

The state reported 1,120 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 51,025 since the start of the pandemic. There are 17,428 active cases in the state.

Hospitalizations increased slightly over the last 24 hours, moving from 622 Wednesday to 624 Thursday. There are 169 being treated in intensive case and 89 on a ventilator.

The state’s cumulative positive rate also continues to rise and is at 3.73%, up from 3.69% Wednesday. The daily positive percentage rate also increased from 6.60% Wednesday to 6.94% Thursday.

There have been more than 32,800 recover from the virus in the state.
