COVID-19 WV SUNDAY: CALHOUN SEES 21 NEW CASES IN SEVEN DAYS - WV Has 1,152 Cases

West Virginia confirmed 1,152 new COVID-19 cases Sunday along with 11 more virus-related deaths.

Calhoun has seen an increase of 21 cases since last Sunday.

The nation’s top infectious disease expert said Sunday that the U.S. may see “surge upon surge” of the coronavirus over the coming weeks, and he does not expect current recommendations around social distancing to be relaxed before Christmas.

The new deaths include a 49-year old woman from Harrison County, a 73-year old man from Kanawha County, a 47-year old woman from Kanawha County, a 79-year old woman from Kanawha County, an 82-year old man from Kanawha County, a 91-year old woman from Cabell County, a 97-year old man from Putnam County, a 68-year old man from Wood County, a 97-year old woman from Greenbrier County, a 97-year old woman from Mineral County and an 84-year old man from Marion County, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The deaths push the state’s death toll to 729.

The 1,152 new cases push the active total in West Virginia to 16,370. The overall positive test rate moved to 3.61% while the daily positive test rate came in at 4.79%.

Hospitalizations from the virus increased to 556, including 165 people in intensive care and 74 on ventilators.
